As the speaker talks about lost opportunities, metaphorically he is reflecting on his life choices, and how they are going or have affected his life. However, as it is “the road not taken”, the poem focuses on lost opportunities, which is, perceptibly, the road that the speaker did not take. If the title meant the road less traveled the poem would have a stranger focus in non-conformity, which is taking the path that others don’t take. It is imperative to understand that the title is does not mean, as often mistaken, “the road less travelled”, it is “the road not taken”. The title of the poem is the key to its interpretation. Tetrameter means that there are four feet in the line iambic tetrameter is a line comprising four iambs.Tetrameter because there are 4 “da-DUM”s.Each unit is called a “foot” (plural “feet”), and in this case, the foot is an “iamb”.
